Puan Maharani Says She Is Ready to Be President

Puan Maharani says she is ready to be nominated as the presidential candidate for the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle. The comments come just hours after her father, Taufik Kiemas, said her mother, former President Megawati Sukarnoputri, was too old to contest the 2014 presidential elections.
"As a cadre, I'm ready to be assigned to every position, especially if it is mandated by the party," Puan at a national coordination meeting for the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) in Balikpapan on Monday.
Puan, however, acknowledged that it was unlikely Megawati would withdraw from the 2014 race.
"Bu Mega never said that she would withdraw her presidential nomination," she said. "Her mandate for us is to win the 2014 election."
